what does the LORD require of you?

12 October 2011
Walk humbly with thy God: True humility will inevitably lead us to say to God, “Thy will be done.”.
“Walk humbly with thy God”- Does not mean  to walk in a particular physical posture, with head bowed and wearing a pious expression with hands clasped or walk humbly with God means living meagerly, and settling with bare minimum to live, not living in comforts  or by eating extremely simple meals etc .

Some even believe that being in prayer 24/7, and doing God work.No attitude or thoughts or intentions will work out good. Humility involves having a constant communion with God.
Agree with me that you need the Grace of God to live on this earth.  Proverbs 3:34 says that God gives Grace to the humble.  God resists the proud and gives Grace to the humble’ (James 4:6).  ‘God does not forget the cry of the humble’. Psalm 9:12) ‘It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud’.(Proverbs 16:19).

Walking humbly with God is a tough task. It means otherwise simply not exalting one’s thoughts nor our wills above that which is God’s will for our lives.
  • GOD gives more grace. Bible has a treasure of words to enlighten us about humility   Therefore He says: “ God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”James 4:6
  • The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.Psalm 25:9
  • The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.Psalm 69:32
  • The LORD lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground.Psalm 147:6
  • A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.Proverbs 29:23
Walking humbly with God, simply put means, walking in obedience to God.
  • Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.James 4:10
Humility belongs to the highest form of character of a person.
World at times may go behind proud people, but people with humbleness are always   outweigh others in all aspects.
It is God given Grace to have humbleness at heart.
God sees the heart and grant all your wishes , prayers etc according to the content  of the heart.

Therefore humble yourselves under the
mighty hand of God,
that  He may exalt you in due time.
1 Peter 5:6

what does the LORD require of you?

11 October 2011- To love mercy
The biblical concept of mercy always involves helping  those who are in need or distress.  God's mercy is never just a feeling but is expressed by His action.  There is a difference between Mercy and Grace:
·         Mercy--not getting what you do deserve
·         Grace--getting what you don't deserve

On the other hand, He is a forgiving God and shows mercy to a penitent people
Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old." Psalm 25:4-7

Our culture admires mercy. Romans spoke of four cardinal virtues:

  • wisdom,
  • justice,
  • temperance, and
  • courage—but not mercy. The Interpreter's Bible states that the Romans despised pity!

The Greeks held similar views, thinking that mercy indicated weakness rather than strength.

Aristotle wrote that pity was a troublesome emotion.
Bible speaks about Mercy in various ways: Here are  some of the examples:

  • "His mercy extends to those who fear him..." Luke 1:50
  • "For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him” Psalm 103:11
  • "Have mercy on me, O LORD! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death.”Psalm 9:13
  • But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.Psalm 13:5
  • "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.Psalm 23:6
  • "For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, And Your truth unto the clouds.Psalm 57:10

  • "For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. Psalm 86:13
A French proverb states, "To know all is to forgive all." This saying is somewhat similar to the more commonly known, "There but for the grace of God go I."

  • Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed.Psalm 85:10

"Seek good, not evil,  that you may live.

Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.

Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts.

Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy .....Amos 5:14-15

Read Psalm 136- Enjoy the presence of God
“His mercy endures forever.”

what does the LORD require of you?

10 October 2011
"He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
      But to do justly,
      To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8
We are actually pouring out our desires, dreams, wishes, needs, troubles and even our demands due to egoism are made known to God. WE never even bother to think about the fact, that What God expect of us. Without this thought we even blame God for not getting an answer for our prayers.
Nothing comes to us without an effort and nothing turns out to be free.
All the promises are conditional promises and all blessings are subjected to conditions.
God expect three things from you.
·         to act justly, - in all your words and actions do the justice
·         To love mercy- Earn the Grace of God- Nothing is so precious than Grace.
·         to walk humbly -Do away with pride and arrogance.
Justice: It means- fair dealings, righteousness honesty and integrity. It is a very rare concept now in this world. It is being filled with impartiality, and injustice, in all aspects and at all levels.
Bible quotes many verses to uphold righteousness :
  • “The LORD’s justice will dwell in the desert, his righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. (Isaiah 32:16-18)
  • “For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:20)
  • “You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions”. Psalm 45:7
  • “Let the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is Judge”.   Psalm 50:6
  • “My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long”. Psalm 72:24
  • Blessed are those who keep justice, And he who does righteousness at all times” Psalm 106:3

“So you may walk in the way of goodness,
And keep to the paths of righteousness.”Proverbs 2:20
