“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness1.John 1:9
Forgiveness and cleansing from sin results from confession of our sins, the blood of Jesus Christ is responsible for cleansing us from sin.
How we are cleansed is not dependent upon our actions (confession), but based upon the Grace of Jesus Christ. The answer is clear to the question-why we should confess our sins?-confession is not done for forgiveness alone, but for our own good - to heal from the consequences of sin.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. (James 5:16)
Confession is important, it helps to heal us from the effects of sin and restores our relationship with God. Forgiveness and cleansing are both done through the blood of Jesus. Cleansing effected through the Word--the Word testifies of the blood and of the power of God.
- “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. l John 1:5-10.
The ONLY way we are purified of sin is that we walk in the light and maintain an open relationship with Him. a lifestyle of repentance.
- “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
Read this. Wait on the Lord and He will set you free.
- I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him. Psalm 40:1-3.
- "You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you". John 15:3
- "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting". PSALM 139:23-24
