The Swift/ Rash Tongue

14-August 2011

Swift-impetuous-pertaining to, or characterized by sudden or spontaneous and rash action, etc

Some people are habituated with impetuous nature, where they are rash to speak-out, before assimilating the matter fully and will not give time to think and than to generalize in a calm way. persons who have been hasty and rash in action  signifies that they who have not given themselves time ,to consider what they have read or heard, and have hastily received everything that has been said or heard by  them,
In hi –tech era very thing moves faster than before but the tongue should be tamed to be disciplined before we speak. Some people are guilty of speaking too swiftly when they really need to wait before saying anything.
We read in the Bible in Proverbs 18:13: "He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him.""How many times have you had to "eat" your words because you spoke too swiftly? James 1:19 “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak.”
Have you ever thought about the fact, why God gave us two ears but only one mouth? they should be used to hear more than to speak .The ears are always open ready to receive instruction; but the tongue to be kept it within proper boundaries.
God expects us to be humble and unassuming; to lay aside all our irritability against the truth, and all pride of opinion, and all corruption of heart, and to receive meekly God’s word.
“Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.  Ecclesiastes 5:2" So “Sin is not ended by multiplying words".(Proverbs10:19) "Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”(Proverbs 13:3.)The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.”(Proverbs 15:2.)

Bible warns us stating He will make them stumble over their own tongue ;All who see them shall flee away.(Psalm 64:8) and “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account”.(Hebrews 4:13)

The cure of an evil tongue must be done at the heart. A cunning heart makes a awkward tongue and It is the work-house of deceits and slanders of the lips. Remember that the tongue speaks only what is in the heart .Everything you say publicly with your lips, may act as a check in your life.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”Luke 6:45
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil". Proverbs 3:5-7
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings." Jeremiah 17:9-10

Let us be swift to hear wholesome advice, good instructions and not to pay attention to the idle and unprofitable talk, or filthy and corrupt communication.
Think before you speak.
Meditate on the word of God.
