The Tale-bearing Tongue

15 August 2011
Tale-bearing  means : prone to communicate confidential information secrets, scandal, etc., maliciously,spitefully
 A “tale-bearer”-simply to bear a tale, to carry it forth. It’s a tale when you are not going to witness the truth in it. Tale-bearing is a term which includes lying, gossiping, slandering, whispering, speaking ill of and even innocent blabbing. Tale-bearing (carrying and telling tales) spreads all sorts of hurtful information around.
           A tale-bearer takes a person into confidence and spreads tales for personal gain or for personal satisfaction. They juxtapose the matter in a new  way with additions and deductions and may bring out totally a new story. So, such should not be repeated and the person should be rebuked for this kind of activity. Let us not be cheated and be deceived by such kind of a talebearer. They are without honesty  and integrity and of low self esteem.  Leviticus 19:16 says, "Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people."
    Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;
     And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.
     As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire,
     So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
     The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles,
     And they go down into the inmost body.” Proverbs26:20-22
             Proverbs 18:8 says, "The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly." A victim of tale bearing, according to Proverbs, is a “wounded” person being hurt to the core, always planning to dig up evil. What kind of person does the Bible states to “digs up evil” “An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.” (Proverbs 16:27)
           Tale-bearing can be dangerous and have enormous demoralizing scary results.  According to Proverbs, “it injures like a club, sword, or sharp arrow”….(Prov. 25:18).  “It stirs up strife (Prov. 10:12) and kindles strife.. (Prov. 26:21). “..your reputation be ruined.” (Prov. 25:10).  Above all, “it separates close friends and fractures relationships” (Prov. 17:9).  “A talebearer reveals secrets” Proverbs 11:13. This phenomenal character is visible and inherent in a talebearer.
            Tale bearing is contrary to Christian teaching and principles. Every Christian has the duty to disallow his own desires and seek to edify other Christians. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. “Philippians 2:3
          Tale-bearing is a sin.   Beware when a talebearer comes to you with a bits of gossip. How are you going to respond, as well as react?  Be   always Alert. Think and act. If you are sensible enough you will avoid even listening to chats, gossips and hear-say -stories and suppose rumours.

“A soft answer turneth away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)
  As for the restless talebearer,
  let him gossip away as much as he likes;

 "Listen to advice, and accept instruction,
 that you may gain wisdom in the future." Proverbs 19:20
